A meeting by Ministry of Electronics and IT was held on the issue on September 2, which was attended by officials from leading smartphone makers as well as representatives from DoT and ISRO. The meeting follows a request from Department of Space to DoT to incorporate NavIC in mobile handsets and fix a timeline for that. The industry representatives told the government that NavIC should be mandated for 5G smartphones, which are expected to contribute 80% of new devices in coming two years.from Industry-Economic Times
