
A team from the Indian national carrier was sent to London to study the process, said S Venkat, an Air India veteran who retired as director, finance, after close to four decades in various roles. Venkat came back and filed a report. The government of the time, however, dropped the idea. It was subsequently revived in 2001. The September 11 attacks ended that exercise. Another effort in 2018 didn’t find any takers.
